Urban vegetation for all
In Germany, the City of Andernach was a front runner "Edible City" with their garden project started in 2010, but in the meantime the idea has grown into a worldwide network promoting and implementing Edible City Solutions (ECS). As the name implies, the movement intends to convert urban spaces into places of sustainable agricultural production, distribution and use. Edible City Solutions range from neighbourhood gardens, to urban beekeeping and sheep farming, green facades or high-tech indoor farming, cooking and dining events and the use of locally grown urban food in restaurants. The positive effects of such measures go way beyond a local food production - they help make cities healthier, greener and more livable, create new green businesses and jobs and empower local communities to overcome social problems.
